Trinity and St James’s Hospital announce plans for new cancer institute
The intention to develop a new cancer institute was jointly announced by Trinity College Dublin and St James’s Hospital at the launch of Cancer Week today [October 17th]. The first of its kind in Ireland, the new cancer institute will set a new standard for cancer care nationally, integrating medicine and science in cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship. Based on similar leading international models, it will be located in one designated facility at St James’s Hospital.

Ketamine trialled as new hope to prevent recurrent depression
Researchers from the Department of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin are trialling a potential new treatment option for people who suffer from repeated episodes of depression. The team are investigating whether the children’s anaesthetic ketamine, which has recently been shown to have antidepressant effects, could help people who recover from severe depression to remain well.
