US Leading Expert on Ageing Dr Walter Bortz Gives Lecture on ‘The Plasticity of Human Ageing’

The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) hosted a recent lecture by Walter Bortz M.D, Clinical Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Recognised as one of America’s most distinguished scientific experts on ageing and longevity Dr Walter Bortz’s research has focused on the importance of physical exercise in the promotion of robust ageing. An avid runner himself, the 82-year old Dr Bortz runs an average of 16 miles per week and has run 41 marathons.
Dr Bortz is currently teaching a new course at Stanford University entitled “The Roadmap to 100: The Science of Living a Long Life.” He has also published over 130 medical articles and authored numerous books, including We Live Too Short and Die Too Long, Dare to Be 100, and Living Longer for Dummies, and Diabetes Danger.
Dr Bortz is President of The American Geriatric Society and is currently Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation, as well as a Senior Advisor to Healthy Silicon Valley, a community collaborative effort which addresses the soaring incidence of obesity and diabetes.
