Trinity’s Open Day attracts 10,000 people

Over 10,000 people from across the country visited the Trinity College Dublin Open Day in December to explore the wide range of undergraduate courses which the University has to offer.
Held across the University's city centre campus, the Trinity Open Day offered secondary school students and their parents, mature students, teachers and guidance counsellors an opportunity to gain a real insight into student life at Trinity.
Over the course of the day, the University's academic staff gave over 150 presentations and interactive demonstrations and were on hand to answer all questions relating to courses in the faculties of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Engineering, Mathematics and Science; and Health Sciences. Current students were also available to lend some practical advice to prospective students, give tours of the University's state of the art Sports Centre, science laboratories and libraries, and share their experiences of life at Trinity. Members of the University community worked together to ensure prospective students were introduced to the range of student activities, facilities and societies on offer at the University.
Information sessions on various aspects of the Trinity Access Programmes were held to encourage students from socio-economic groups currently under represented in the Irish third level sector to consider further education at Trinity. There was also a special presentation for mature students, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents as well as information about support services for students with disabilities. The University's Accommodation Office was also on hand to answer questions relating to Trinity Hall, the recommended accommodation choice for all first years and new entrants to Trinity.
This year saw the introduction of a new app with the full schedule of talks, tours and maps that allowed prospective students to easily personalise and plan their Open Day at Trinity. The app was hugely successful, having been downloaded by over 1,768 users. The Open Day was also a popular event across multiple social media platforms, and was trending on Twitter for 18 hours.
Coordinated by Eva Page, the University’s EU Recruitment Manager, the Trinity Open Days aim to give students an in-depth knowledge of the University's academic, social and cultural offerings.
Commenting on the success of the day, Eva said: “We were delighted by the fantastic turn out at our Open Day and welcomed prospective students, parents, teachers and school groups from right across the island. Approximately 10,000 people attended, which we very much appreciated considering the cold conditions. It was a real indication of Trinity’s appeal and representative of our commitment to attracting students with talent and potential from all parts of the country and all backgrounds. Our Open Day team of current Trinity students did a great job in bringing the campus alive and epitomised the fact that it is the people who study and work here that make us a brilliant university.”
