Trinity College Dublin, Ireland’s leading university, has announced the establishment of the Trinity Global Undergraduate Scholarship for China, a new scholarship which will support a prospective Chinese undergraduate student to study at Trinity College Dublin. The university has also unveiled its new Chinese online presence which includes a newly designed Chinese language website (trinitychina.ie) and university profiles across a number of social media channels. The announcement was made during the Education in Ireland mission to China organised by Enterprise Ireland and led by Minister for Education and Skills Jan O’Sullivan TD.
Welcoming the announcement, Minister O’Sullivan said: “Trinity has a strong record of strategic engagement in China. These developments, including its online presence, MOU signings and announcement of scholarships, are concrete examples of the major advances it is making in this important market.”
Speaking in Beijing following signature by Trinity of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange, Professor Juliette Hussey, Vice President for Global Relations at Trinity College Dublin, said: “Trinity College Dublin has had strong links with China for most of its history. Today’s signing of a MOU with CSCSE, the announcement of a new scholarship and developments with the University’s online presence highlight Trinity’s focus on global education. Together with new mobility opportunities for staff and students and institutional partnerships, they reflect Trinity’s contemporary commitment to Chinese collaborations and deeper engagement with China.”
The Trinity Global Scholarship for China, valued at €10,000 for one year (the academic year 2015-16), will be awarded to a high calibre student from mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan who wishes to follow an undergraduate programme of study at Trinity. Individuals who are interested in applying for the scholarship at Trinity College Dublin should submit an application online at www.trinitychina.ie or email tcdchina@tcd.ie for further information.
Trinity collaborated with Grok Education Services to develop the university’s online presence. Grok works with higher education institutions to pursue their recruitment and marketing goals in the world’s major international education markets. The project has seen the university become active across a number of social media platforms including WeChat, YouKu, Tencent Weibo, Sina Weibo and Renren. Followers can keep up-to-date with the latest news, events and research innovations from Trinity alongside insights into life in Ireland. The university’s WeChat platform connects individuals in a virtual community allowing them interact with each other and Trinity representatives to discover more about the University and its offerings.
“Our new Chinese language website presents key information for prospective students and parents in a format that is easier to navigate”, commented Vice-President for Global Relations, Professor Juliette Hussey. “It will also allow us to stay in closer contact with our ever growing Chinese alumni community and to bring information about Trinity directly to everyone in China interested in learning more about the university, our world-class research and our links with Asia.”
