Trinity College Dublin has won two Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) Impact Awards for top performance in industry engagement and commercialisation of research. Successful in the categories of License to Market and Consultancy Impact, Trinity was the only institution to win two awards.
The KTI Impact Awards recognise and showcase the success in knowledge transfer carried out in Irish Higher Education Institutes and publicly-funded research organisations for the wider benefit of the economy and society.
They pay tribute to businesses, research-performing organisations and the technology transfer offices that make this happen.
The License to Market award was secured for the research undertaken by Professor of Chemical Physics at Trinity, Jonathan Coleman, who licensed research with Thomas Swan and Samsung.
The Consultancy Impact award was secured for the work of Professor Emeritus at Trinity, Mike Jones, and Assistant Professor in Plant Sciences, Matthew Saunders, for their roles in supporting the company Monford AG, and for the product they developed post-consultancy with Trinity, called Grassometer.
The awards were announced last week by Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD.
Director of Trinity Research & Innovation, Diarmuid O’Brien, said: “Many congratulations to the academics and researchers involved, and also to the members of the OCPKE who enabled the deals and helped to transfer the excellent research to achieve impact."
"It is great that Trinity is being recognised by Knowledge Transfer Ireland as leading — not just in research, but also in its transfer to the market.”
