Trinity Wins Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality Award

Trinity College Dublin has been announced as the Number 1 Public Sector Employer in Ireland for LGBT Inclusion, and 5th overall in the Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality in Ireland, at the GLEN Workplace Equality Index 2016 Awards Ceremony.
“This is a tremendous achievement, and a recognition, not only of the efforts of the University to make our strategic aspirations for inclusivity a reality, but also a very positive endorsement of the work of the newly established Trinity LGBT Staff Network”, commented Tony McMahon, Director of Diversity and Inclusion. The network has been supported by the Diversity and Inclusion office, the Equality Officer, and Human Resources.
Applications for Workplace Equality Index recognition comprise twenty-seven questions divided across six sections, which must be accompanied by strong supporting evidence. The six sections cover: Diversity Leadership; Policies and Practices; Diversity Culture; LGBT Visibility; and, Diverse Business.
“As part of the process, Trinity will receive detailed feedback on our application from GLEN, and we look forward to receiving this to plan for further progress and improvement in 2017,” added Aoife Crawford, Equality Officer.

Speaking at the GLEN Workplace Equality Index 2016 Awards Ceremony on September 20th, Brian Sheehan, Executive Director, GLEN said: “We are delighted to recognise the companies and executives who are leading the way in making Irish workplaces fully inclusive of LGBT people. Each and every organisation who participated is playing an integral role in creating a business culture in Ireland that values the skills, ideas and creativity that LGBT people bring to the workplace”.
