Trinity Wheelers cycling to raise money for the postgraduate hardship fund

Posted on: 06 June 2018

A team of Trinity staff and students will be taking to their bikes next Sunday for the gruelling Wicklow 200, Ireland’s longest running annual challenge cycling event, to raise money for the postgraduate student hardship fund.

“Many of our Graduate students are in dire financial straits.  Every year, we receive applications to our hardship fund from students who cannot afford rent, who may need to drop out of studies or who, for multiple other reasons are struggling at a truly awful level”, explained Professor Neville Cox, Dean of Graduate Studies who is leading the Trinity team called Trinity Wheelers.

“To try to supplement this fund aimed at providing financial relief various Trinity staff and students, including the Dean of Health Sciences, the Dean of Development, the Senior Tutor, the Vice President of the Graduate Students’ Union, and many other wonderful Professors and students will be cycling the Wicklow 200 event, or doing some equivalent form of excessive physical endeavour on a sponsored basis,” Neville added.

To support the team, please sponsor them here.  No matter what the amount you donate it will be vitally important in aiding a student who desperately needs and deserves assistance.

The Wicklow 200 is a non-competitive one-day cycle ride that takes place every June and attracts over 3,000 cyclists from many different countries. Established in 1982 the Wicklow 200, as the name suggests, covers over 200 kilometres around Co. Wicklow, taking in most of the famous hills that have made Wicklow a major international cycling destination over the years.
