Trinity to welcome record numbers of new students as 195 places added
Posted on: 07 September 2021
Amid unprecedented interest in third-level courses, Trinity hit a new high in terms of first preferences in 2021 with 10,711 students naming Trinity as their top choice. Newly-released CAO Round One offers show increased points for many courses.
Trinity Vice-Provost Prof. Orla Sheils said:
This year’s Leaving Certificate students have had a difficult year and we are conscious of the pressure that there has been on them and their families. We look forward to welcoming all students – new and existing – back in the coming weeks for a more in-person campus experience than last year allowed. We have added 195 places across a range of courses to help meet demand. Still the rise in points for many courses was inevitable and reflects increased demand for undergraduate places.
There are now eight Trinity courses requiring more than 600 points (nine including Medicine).
These are:
-
Management Science and Information Systems Studies (625*, +12 points from 2020);
-
Dental Science (625*, +12 points);
-
Pharmacy (613*, +23 points);
-
Global Business (613*, +24 points);
-
Philosophy, Political Science, Economics and Sociology (613*, +24 points);
-
Law and French (602*, +37 points);
-
Psychology (601*, +34 points);
-

-

Some of the biggest increases were in Arts and Humanities subjects including History of Art and Architecture (498, +105); Music (508, +73); Philosophy (510, up 68); Ancient and Medieval History and Culture (498, +156).
First preference applications to the Joint Honors programmes at Trinity rose by 144% (from 1,452 to 3,548). Several changes were also made to the subjects and combinations available. Several programmes that previously had denominated entry paths moved into Joint Honours and two other subjects were added.
