Trinity Team Wins The Advocate Business Law Challenge

Two TCD law students have been named winners of The Advocate 2013, the all-Ireland business law challenge for third level students.

Hannah McCarthy and Matthew Langton demonstrated their keen command of business and commercial law issues at the final of the McCann FitzGerald Advocate Challenge, which took place at the Four Courts on March 8th.

The Advocate offers budding lawyers the chance to compete against other top law and business and law students from the island of Ireland and to develop their skills as young lawyers and advocates in the commercial business arena. Competitors competed against each other in a court-room setting as they attempted to convince senior members of the judiciary that they understand the crucial commercial issues of the day.

The competition was adjudicated by Mr Justice Peter Kelly of the High Court, Mr Justice Bernard McCloskey of the High Court of Northern Ireland and Rose Hynes, Chairman of Bord Gáis Éireann and Shannon Airport Authority.

The winners have secured a place on the McCann FitzGerald’s 2013 summer internship programme and a prize of €2,000. The runners up, James Coleman & Ciara McManus from UCD, received a prize of €500. Prizes for best written submission were also awarded to Sean Hiney and Jack McInerney representing NUI Galway. The event was supported by the Courts Service and the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service.
