‘Trinity Takes To The Streets’ Raises Over €110,000 for Educational Access

‘Trinity Takes To The Streets’  Dublin City Marathon initiative raised over €110,000 for educational access initiatives and student hardship bursaries in Trinity. The beneficiary initiatives are the Trinity Access Programmes (TAP), National Institute for Intellectual Disability (NIID) and the Student Hardship Fund.   Students and staff  who participated in the TTTTS initiative celebrated  the end of a  successful year with  ‘Pies in the Pav’  earlier this week.

Fifty runners – students, staff, alumni and friends – signed up to run the Dublin City Marathon in  October and raise sponsorship.  Many others got involved in helping and supporting in other ways – participating in TTTTS events*, organising their own fundraising, or cheering the runners from the sidelines on the day.

Representatives of the three initiatives – Myra O’Regan (Senior Tutor), Kathleen O’Toole (TAP), Molly O’Keeffe (NIID)  –   thanked all involved and described how the funding would make a big difference to many Trinity students facing  financial and other challenges. It would also help them reach their educational goals.

Prizes were presented to Frank Mangan (Director of Buildings Office) who completed the marathon in the fastest time and Michael Dillon (Trinity Alumnus) for making it last longer (slowest time!).  A special prize was presented to Eda Sagarra for the greatest number of sponsors.

Director of Trinity Foundation, Nick Sparrow acknowledged the inspirational support of staff, students and alumni of Trinity: “This collective community effort has made a huge difference – we look forward to helping the College build on this initiative as a means of harnessing people’s enthusiasm and goodwill in the future.”
