A delegation from Trinity College Dublin, promoting educational and cultural links with Russian institutions, took part on a visit to the Russian Federation this week.

In the course of the visit a collaborative journal between the School of Language, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS), Trinity College and the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow, with support from the Irish Literary Exchange was launched. The first issue of Irlandskaya Literatura (Irish Literature in Russian Translation/Litríocht na hÉireann aistrithe go Rúisisthe), a dual-language journal featuring leading Irish writers translated into Russian, was launched on March 2nd at the Irish Embassy in Moscow.  Trinity Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast, the Head of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies, Dr Sarah Smyth and the journal editor, Dr John Murray, of the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies attended the event.

The journal appears in both hard copy and online (www.irlandskayaliteratura.org). Among the authors featured in Irlandskaya Literatura are Anne Enright, Máirtín Ó Direáin, Hugo Hamilton, Colum McCann, Kevin Barry, Pual Durcan and Thomas Kilroy.

Speaking at the launch in Moscow, Provost Dr Patrick Prendergast said, “The journal is another important step in Trinity’s collaboration with Russia and I would like to thank sincerely all the people involved in its production. We are delighted to be associated with the first dual-language publication and hope that it would lead to many more.”
