Trinity Long Room Hub Building Shortlisted for Architecture Award

The Trinity Long Room Hub building has been shortlisted from 134 entries for the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Public Choice architecture award 2011.  The competition asks for the public to vote for their favourite building from a diverse shortlist of 38 projects.  The Trinity Long Room Hub, Trinity College’s research institute for the arts and the humanities, was officially opened in September 2010 and was designed by McCullough Mulvin Architects.

The Trinity Long Room Hub building was shortlisted for the 2010 World Architecture Festival during which is was described as follows: “The Trinity Long Room Hub building completes Fellows’ Square and frames the view from Front Square over the roof of the 1937 Reading Room.  The honeycomb granite surface of the four storey building is broken and imprecise, large roof lights form canons of light and create dramatic tall spaces for work and research.”

The awards are run by the RIAI and are divided into 15 categories including emerging practice, public building, health and leisure.  The public can vote online at www.architectureawards.ie or on the Irish Architecture Awards page on Facebook.  A shortlist of projects can be viewed on the competition website and the winners across all the categories will be announced at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards ceremony on 11 July in Dublin City Council’s Wood Quay venue, Dublin 8.
