Trinity Immigration Initiative: Migration Research Fair
Posted on: 25 September 2007
The Trinity Immigration Initiative hosted the Migration Research Fair on September 24 last which was opened by the Minister of State for Integration, Conor Lenihan TD. Today research on immigration is rapidly expanding in Ireland. It is therefore important that there is as much collaboration as possible between different researchers and different institutions. The ‘Fair’ aimed to bring together both researchers from the universities and research institutes as well as the various stakeholders in immigration policy, including not least migrant organisations themselves.
As well as plenary sessions, there were five separate streams of workshops throughout the day with brief presentations from researchers and practitioners covering all aspects of immigration in Ireland. They included workshops on migration and the labour market; migration, language and education; migration and social policy; migration and community relations; and migration networks. The Fair aimed to showcase, map and share academic research on migration in Ireland as well as to enhance communication and co-operation between researchers, policy-makers, migrant organisations and NGOs. It also aimed to contribute to creating a more effective research community on this crucial issue.
