Trinity Graduates Tackle Youth Homelessness
Posted on: 29 April 2016
A group of seven Trinity graduates are taking a proactive stance against youth homelessness in this country. Their One For Ireland concept, taking place today (April 29), comes with the tagline ‘One cause. One day. One euro’ and has the backing of golfer Shane Lowry and a number of other well-known faces.
The Trinity alum came up with the idea of trying to get a lot of people to donate a little amount in order to make a large impact.
The seven young men and women are: Max Doyle (Law & Business, 2015); Simon Wilson (Law, 2015); David Henry (BESS, 2015); Caelan Rush (Immunology, 2015); Tom Lenihan (Law & Business, 2015); Aisling Byrne (Music, 2015) and Amr Dawood (Bioengineering, 2016).
All seven knew each other through doing various overlapping modules while completing their degrees.
The idea for One For Ireland originated last summer, when the group decided to dedicate their first six months out of college to a non-profit to work on a cause they cared about.
Commenting on the project, Amr Dawood, who was previously involved in social enterprise projects while studying at Trinity, commented: “The key to One For Ireland lies in its simplicity – we are a group of seven young individuals aiming to effect real change in this country. The idea of taking a small sum of money from a large amount of people was a new way to tackle an issue facing the whole country and the biggest issue facing Irish society today.”
How One For Ireland works: When you go to any of the 1,500 participating One For Ireland stores nationwide today, you will be asked if you want to increase your bill by €1 for One For Ireland. This money goes directly to youth homelessness. Or you can donate online https://www.oneforireland.ie/
