Trinity College Students and Staff Turn Out to Launch Health & Sports Week 2010
Posted on: 22 March 2010
Trinity College students and staff gathered on spinning bikes in Front Square today to launch Health and Sports Week 2010. This year’s theme, Legacy for Life, aims to encourage students, staff and visitors to the College to take part in the diverse programme of activities scheduled during the week (22nd – 25th March) and learn how to incorporate healthy eating with fitness to develop a sustainable approach to life long health and wellbeing.
Following the launch in Front Square Dr Michael Doran, College Psychiatrist, delivered a talk on Headwrecked – Head Shops and Party Pills during which reports of young people who have suffered psychotic effects as a result of taking legal highs were discussed. A number of new exercise classes, including an introduction to the climbing wall, an outdoor boot camp circuit and water aerobics, have been arranged by the Sports Centre to help participants realise their goals and assist with stress relief and relaxation.
Other events throughout the week include a Grow your Own workshop to encourage organic living, a GAA 7’s tournament and a range of healthy eating menus will be on offer throughout College catering outlets. A health information stand will also be in place in the Arts Building foyer each day from 12-3pm covering a range of College services on offer. Trinity College Health and Sports week calls on each of us to take responsibility for our health and offers advice and useful tips on how we can all make small changes, no matter what level of fitness, to ensure we live healthy, happy and productive lives.
The full programme of health promotion and health education activities is available online.
