Posted on: 08 June 2017
Trinity College Dublin has been ranked in 88th place in the world in the just published QS World University Rankings 2018. It represents an increase of ten places on last year’s 98th position and Trinity continues to be Ireland’s leading university. According to QS this means that Trinity is now in the top 1% of universities worldwide.
Trinity’s performance rose in the majority of the rankings’ categories making it number one in Ireland for research impact. This is especially important for the economic development of Ireland and jobs creation. Campus start-ups, spin-outs, and technology transfers are all direct results of research outputs.
Nationally, Trinity also topped the league tables in academic reputation, international students and faculty, demonstrating the university’s capacity to attract both students and staff from around the world. It rose as well in employer reputation indicating the employability of Trinity graduates by domestic and international employers.
Trinity’s Dean of Research, John Boland said: “This is good news for Trinity and good news for Irish education in general. Today’s increase shows that Trinity is regaining some lost ground on former years. We have achieved this despite intense global competition and continued reduced government investment. The commitment shown by our staff puts Trinity at the forefront of higher education in Ireland, insuring the educational experience we provide is informed by world-class research. This also occurs in a year when Trinity joined the prestigious ranks of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), Europe’s leading network of research-intensive universities that further strengthens our voice and position internationally. These achievements are especially important in a post-Brexit climate, for Trinity and Ireland.”
