Trinity Ball 2019

This year, Trinity Ball will be held on Friday 12 April. Preparations for the Ball will begin on Friday the 5th. Facilities will be constructed and installed in New Square, Library Square (behind the Campanile), Front Square and in Fellows’ Square.
The preparations associated with the safety and security arrangements for the Ball are substantial and your co-operation is requested please.
Front Gate will close at 2.00pm on Friday 12th of April and will remain closed until 2.00pm on Saturday 13th of April to allow for the post Ball ‘clean-up’ operation.
Pedestrians accessing to the West Area of University between 2.00pm and 5.30pm on the Friday of the Ball may enter or exit by the Nassau Street entrance (Arts Building) on production of a valid student / staff card or App.
All staff and students who are not working at the Ball are requested to leave the University at or before 5.30pm on Friday 12th of April, whether based in the Ball area or otherwise, as all gates (including perimeter key gates, the Narrows Gate and the Rose Garden Gate at House 40) will close at 5.30pm.
The Nassau Street entrance (Arts Building) will open as normal on Saturday 13th of April at 8.00am and remain open until midnight.
Pedestrian access after 5.30pm for authorised Ball staff will be via Nassau Street entrance (Arts Building) only.
Ticket holders
Admission to the Ball for ticket holders only is via the Nassau Street entrance (Arts Building) and the Westland Row Entrance at the O’Reilly Institute (opposite the Train Station) between 9.00 pm and 10:30pm.
There is no entry for ticket holders via Front Gate.
Secretary’s Supper guests must enter via Front Gate only
Residents
Residents will be admitted as outlined below on presentation of valid identification – Staff or Student Card / App and Residents Key Card.
- No access for residents between 7:00pm and 2.00am.
In the West Area:
- Up to 7.00pm via the Nassau Street entrance (Arts Building) only.
- From 2.00am via the Nassau Street entrance (Arts Building) only.
Pearse Street Residents and Goldsmith Hall Residents:
- Pearse Street residents will be admitted via the Lincoln Place Gate up to 7.00pm and from 2.00am.
- Goldsmith Hall residents will be admitted by the door at Westland Row only after 5:30pm. There will be no access to the University via the Goldsmith Hall bridge.
University Buildings
All University buildings on the main campus (all other University sites will operate as normal) will remain closed from 5.30pm on Friday 12th of April until normal opening hours on Saturday 13th of April. There will be no access to any of the University buildings on the main campus after 5.30pm (even outside the Ball area). This restriction affects all staff and students including those who would normally have access to buildings outside the usual opening hours.
Security
The University will be at greater risk than normal during the period of the Ball. Therefore, please pay particular attention to securing rooms/offices and other facilities by ensuring that doors and windows are properly locked (including shutters if fitted). Do not leave valuables on view. This warning applies to all accommodation in the University, both residential and office, whether in the Ball area or not. Special attention should be paid to securing windows and doors in ground floor areas, particularly in the properties in Pearse Street, Westland Row, South Leinster Street and Lincoln Place.
Parking Restrictions and Traffic Arrangements:
New Square and Printing House Lane
All cars must be removed from New Square [North and East side] and Printing House Lane from 5.00 pm on Thursday the 4th of April. For safety reasons there will be no parking in these areas until the evening of Tuesday the 16th of April.
The Rubrics
All cars must be removed from the Rubrics by 6.00 pm on Tuesday the 9th of April. There will be no parking at the Rubrics between Wednesday the 10th of April and Sunday the 14th of April.
The Colonnades and New Square South
All cars must be removed from these areas by 6.00 pm on Wednesday the 10th of April. There will be no parking at the Colonnades or in New Square [South] between Thursday the 11th of April and Sunday the 14th of April.
200 Pearse Street / Rugby Pitch Car Park
All cars must be removed by 5.30 pm on Friday the 12th of April. There will be no parking in this area until Saturday the 13th of April at 5pm.
Entrance – East End of Campus
A third entrance is required at the Westland Row Gate beside the Sports Complex. The entrance will be the Westland Row Gate through the SNIAM / Physiology walkway along the Broadwalk and into the Rose Garden. A corridor will be formed with ‘ready’ fencing along this route to shepherd the attendees to the Ball area as quickly, safely and securely as possible. This will cause disruption to the East End of Campus on Friday the 12th of April in order to set up for the Ball.
College Closure (Change in time 5:30pm)
College will close at 5:30pm. All staff and students who are not working at the Ball are requested to leave College before 5.30 pm on Friday 12th of April, whether based in the Ball area or otherwise, as all gates (including perimeter key gates, the Narrows Gate and the House 40 Garden Gate will close at 5.30 pm.
Accessible Spaces- Botany Bay
From Monday the 8th of April three (3) temporary accessible car parking spaces (reserved for people with disabilities) will be provided in Botany Bay (East) to replace those lost due to the restrictions.
Off Campus Parking Facilities – Fleet Street
To compensate for the loss of parking spaces on Campus eighty (80) spaces have been reserved for Trinity College permit holders in the Parkrite Public Car Park on Fleet Street. College permit holders may avail of these spaces ‘free of charge’ between Friday the 5th of April and Tuesday the 16th of April – inclusive. Please note there will be no ‘free parking’ on Saturdays or Sundays. Further details on these arrangements will be circulated by the Estates & Facilities Department in due course.
This is a 24 hour facility and is being funded by the Ball Committee.
Access
Access to and from Front Square and the parking spaces in Botany Bay, the Rubrics [when available] and the Colonnades [when available] will be maintained through New Square North.
