Trinity Access Programme (TAP) and CDVEC Liberties College University Foundation Course

Young adult students who have just started the Trinity Access Programme Liberties College Partnership University Foundation Course, paid a visit to Trinity College Dublin earlier this month as part of their course orientation. Eighteen students from Liberties College started the Liberal Arts University Foundation Course, in  Liberties College last September. The course aims to equip students, who may not otherwise have the opportunity to undertake degree course studies for socio-economic reasons, with the academic and personal skills that they will need in order to benefit from and participate in a third level course.

During the full-time, year long course students take classes in Arts and Social Sciences subjects in Liberties College. They also attend a range of ‘taster’ activities in Trinity including shadowing days, educational guidance workshops, and guest lectures in specialist subjects; and have access to TAP student supports such as the lap top library and Writing Resource Centre.

As part of their orientation programme in Trinity College, the students participated in library and educational guidance workshops met with TAP staff, were led on a tour of the campus by a member of the Students’ Union and enjoyed lunch in the Hamilton Café. The highlight of the programme was a hugely enjoyable céilí mór with other new TAP students, which took place in the Royal Dublin Hotel.

The course has proved very successful since it started in 2004, and 16 graduates of the course are now studying in Trinity College in a broad range of degree courses in the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, and Social and Human Sciences.
