TCD partners with Chartered Financial Analyst Institute

Trinity College Dublin is the first Irish institution to be named a programme partner by the CFA Institute, the global membership organization which awards the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

TCD won the CFA Institute’s recognition for the industry relevant training provided by undergraduate Bachelor in Business Studies (BBS) degree.

Brian Lucey, Professor of Finance at Trinity College Dublin, said: “We are delighted and proud to have had the BBS selected as a CFA Program Partner. This recognition by the CFA Institute sends a clear message to potential students and employers that our BBS provides an education that is professionally relevant, academically cutting edge, internationally respected, and lays the foundation for lifelong learning.”

The long established BBS degree has been recognized to cover 70% of the CFA Program Level I syllabus and equips students both with the knowledge needed to begin work in the field and to successfully commence the CFA examinations. At present only nine undergraduate programmes worldwide are CFA Program Partners.  The partnership also offers scholarships for five business school students to undertake the CFA Institute qualification.

The BBS degree is available through the popular BESS entry, which regularly requires students to have 480 points and above. Students in BESS typically choose to denominate their degree in second year, and the BBS has remained popular over the 30 years of its existence. The business school also runs MBA and MSc courses, including an MSc in Finance which has been designed in collaboration with industry, including the CFA, as well as a large PhD programme. It is regularly ranked as the leading Irish business school on a variety of metrics.
