Switch on Culture Night 2017 at Trinity College Dublin

Trinity College will once again open its doors to the public for Culture Night 2017 on Friday 22nd September from 5:00 p.m. Culture Night is an annual public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts, all over Ireland. Taking part this year will be Trinity’s Old Library and Book of Kells Exhibition, the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Science Gallery Dublin and the Trinity Long Room Hub.

Come see the Book of Kells, one of Ireland’s greatest cultural treasure and the world’s most famous medieval manuscript. Wander around the 18th century Long Room – filled with 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books and view the 1916 Proclamation and the Brian Boru harp.This exhibition will be open from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Trinity, the Douglas Hyde Gallery is internationally renowned, often bringing artists’ work to Irish audiences for the first time. Visit for a free tour of the solo exhibitions Calling on Gravity by Isabel Nolan and Back of Beyond by Brendan Earley, both of which consist of newly made work.

Trinity’s Long Room Hub will host a selection of exciting events from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., including:

‘The Dublin Language Garden’ – an event for all the family, bringing together many themes around language and linguistics, and presenting them through talks and interactive activities throughout the evening. Through board-games, crossword puzzles, and lip reading challenges, visitors can explore the connection between language and culture.
McCullough Mulvin Orange – an art exhibition taking place across five venues in central Dublin, launching on Culture Night 2017. The exhibition features a series of new works by artist Mark Orange each produced in collaboration with leading Dublin architect Niall McCullough of McCullough Mulvin Architects.
Revolution, Rebellion and Resistance – in this the year of the centenary of the Russian Revolution, the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies is hosting an Evening of Poetry and Song: Revolution, Rebellion and Resistance on Culture Night, Senior Common Room (accessed through the Dining Hall on Front Square).

Join the GAA Fun & Run in College Park from 6:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity to get introduced to the different GAA-based activities with experienced players and coaches on hand to introduce you to the skills required for the different games. This drop-in event is suitable for all ages and abilities. No booking is required, with the sessions starting every 20mins.

Science Gallery Dublin will host Can Blockchain Make Music Great Again? – an exploration into how the music industry can use new technologies, such as Blockchain to enable a flourishing and fair, future music ecosystem. Speakers include Grammy-award winning musician, Imogen Heap, from Deloitte Ireland – Director of Consulting, Lory Kehoe and First Music Contact Ireland/Hard Working Class Heroes’ CEO, Angela Dorgan from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
