Student Engineers of Tomorrow Win Kinsella Scholarships

Three engineering students, who have demonstrated outstanding potential in their field, were recently awarded 2015/16 Kinsella Scholarships to pursue full-time degree courses in Engineering at Trinity.

The inaugural awards went to students Stefano Lupo (Junior Freshman, Engineering with Management), Darragh McKay (Senior Freshman, Engineering) and Cara O'Brien (Senior Freshman, Engineering with Management) at an event held in Trinity’s School of Engineering earlier this month.

The winning students were selected by a panel made up of experts from Trinity and Jones Engineering Group.

The Kinsella Scholarships were established in 2014 through a donation from the Chief Executive of Jones Engineering Group, Eric Kinsella, and his wife Barbara.

“Jones Engineering Group, prides itself in the quality of our employees. Our investment in people has been one of the keys to our success. I know Trinity shares this view, and Barbara and I are delighted to be in a position to support tomorrow’s engineering leaders whom Trinity will be nurturing. As a Trinity engineering alumnus, engineering holds a particular importance for myself and Barbara, and I want to invest in future generations of the profession,” said Mr Kinsella.

Head of Trinity’s School of Engineering, Professor Brian Foley, welcomed the support for Trinity’s engineering and engineering with management students.

He added: “It is most gratifying to see such a successful alumnus as Eric give back to Trinity. This generosity will provide vital support for future generations of Trinity engineers, among whom will be the engineering leaders of tomorrow’s Ireland.”

In 2014, significant endowment funding was also donated by Eric Kinsella to fund the state-of-the-art 24-hour student study space in the Ussher Library. Kinsella Hall allows for up to 600 study spaces for all students and researchers in Trinity to access day and night. Kinsella Hall is named in honour of Mr Kinsella’s parents, William and Kathleen Kinsella.
