Student Blog Competition Winners Announced
Posted on: 04 February 2016
The winners of Trinity’s first Careers Advisory Service student blog competition have been announced. During Michaelmas Term, Trinity Senior Sophister students were invited to participate in the Summer Blog Challenge. Students were asked to compose a 500-word blog, giving us a glimpse into what they learned about employment, industry, themselves and their own capabilities and preferences.
According to Sean Gannon, Director of the Careers Advisory Service, summer employment can be crucial to finding jobs for graduates – employers use internships as a recruitment tool for graduate jobs. UK employers recruit up to 80% of graduates who have previously worked with them.
“Experience is now a key part of the graduate recruitment process and what makes this year’s blog competition special is that the winning students obtained their experience internationally. Most importantly, the experience whether gained in a corporate or not-for-profit environment, has helped boost students’ self-confidence and this ultimately makes the graduate selection process less daunting,” Sean explained.
So what distinguishes winning student blog? The answer lies in a catchy title, a call to action, clear writing style and a few inspiring images. EisnerAmper Ireland kindly sponsored this competition and offered 1st Prize (€250), 2nd Prize (€150), and 3rd Prize (€100) place prizes to the winning writers:
1st Prize – Alexandra Trant
2nd Prize – Annabel Pidgeon
3rd Prize (jointly) – Philip Callan
3rd Prize (jointly) – Eniola Naheemat Oladiti
Congratulations to the winning bloggers! The prize-giving lunch was held on 27 January with a number of Trinity staff in attendance along with EisnerAmper Ireland representatives, Sarah Downey, Resourcing and Talent Executive and Hannah Willis, Service Excellence Team. The Senior Lecturer, Dr Gillian Martin, Director of Staff Education in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Sylvia Huntley-Moore, Academic Secretary, Patricia Callaghan and Course Director for Philosophy, Political Science, Economics and Sociology, Dr Paul Scanlon joined the Careers Advisory Service Director and his team to congratulate the winners.
