Raise & Give (RAG) 2016 Supports Trinity Charities
Posted on: 26 January 2016
Trinity’s Raise and Give (RAG) 2016 was launched yesterday. With events running from Monday 25 January to Thursday 4 February, there is a great line-up with something for everyone across Trinity. RAG raises awareness and donations for a number of Trinity charities, in support of student education and engagement with society.
RAG 2016 is organised and run by the Students’ Union with support by the Graduate Students’ Union, the Development and Alumni Office and the Civic Engagement Officer. Trinity alumni are providing support again this year through a grant of €10,000 matched funding – for every euro raised alumni will match it to double the donation.
Highlights of RAG 2016 include a concert in the Chapel, the annual table quiz in the Dining Hall, a student white collar boxing match, a morning rave, the ‘Rose of Trinity’, the RAG party, and Trinity Come Dancing.
In addition to the main events taking place over the two weeks, Trinity students and staff are encouraged to get involved with their own creative fundraising ideas and events. All member of the Trinity community can register their event online and then pick up their fundraising hat and information pack from the Students’ Union (House 6). To encourage fundraisers and donors there are RAG 2016 prizes on offer for the best participants.
Speaking at the well-attended launch of RAG 2016, the Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast, President of the Students’ Union, Lynn Ruane, and alumnus and Trinity Student Managed Fund Board member, Grainne Dooley all highlighted the sense of community and civic engagement that this year’s RAG is bringing to the university with such a wide range of activities and input from staff, students and alumni. SU Ents Office, Katie Cogan, and Chair of Trinity Volunteering, Jack Marks, encouraged all staff and students to attend the variety of events.
Before and after the launch speeches there was an opportunity for the guests to mingle informally with some of the student leaders and charity members who are organising the week’s fundraising endeavours.
There are 13 partner charities based in Trinity which will benefit from RAG 2016 fundraising: VTP, VDP, TAP, S2S, Student Hardship Fund, Postgrad hardship fund, Suas, MOVE, DOVE, FLAC, Enactus, Cancer Soc and Amnesty. Combined they have hundreds of weekly volunteers helping Trinity students, children and families from disadvantaged communities, as well as special projects abroad.
