Professor Jakob Yngvason speaks at Trinity College’s 12th annual Schrödinger Lecture

Professor Jakob Yngvason of the University of Vienna was the guest speaker in the Schrödinger Lecture Series which was recently hosted by Trinity College’s School of Physics, the Austrian Embassy and the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

The Schrödinger Lecture Series is an annual event which commemorates the famous lecture series entitled ‘What is Life?’ given by the Nobel Laureate in Physics, Erwin Schrödinger, in Trinity College in 1943.

Erwin Schrödinger, who fled Germany and later Austria because of his opposition to the Nazis, was given refuge in Ireland during the second world war. He became  the first Director of the School of Theoretical Physics in the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and an honorary Professor at Trinity College from 1940-1956.

His daughter, Frau Braunizer, travelled to Ireland to attend the 12th annual Schrödinger Lecture given by Professsor Yngvason who spoke on the ‘Second Law of Classical Thermodynamics’.
