‘On your Bike’ to Trinity with Health Week 2007
Posted on: 16 April 2007
Prof. Ivana Bacik, Reid Professor of Law at TCD and the College’s Chaplain Fr. Paddy Gleeson launched this year’s Health Week, promoting Trinity’s first Bike to College day. Encouraging staff and students to take part and cycle to college on Tuesday 17 April, the first fifty cyclists to the Buttery with their helmets will receive a free breakfast.
“With Strike a Balance as this year’s theme, Health Week aims to help staff and students find a balance between work and relaxation,” stated Aileen McGloin, Trinity College’s Health Promotion Officer. “It is all about getting the right amount of work, rest and play, eating good food and minding your health. We also hope that Health Week will encourage students control exam stress through physical activity and healthy eating.”
Prof. Ian Robertson will give a lunchtime talk ‘Stay Sharp With The Mind Doctor’ on Wednesday 18 April. Other events throughout Health Week include free lunchtime activities such as croquet, yoga, pilates, tai chi, body toning, power walking and free fitness theatre inductions. Health check desks and information stands will also be placed throughout the college including The Marie Keating Foundation mobile unit, Pulmonary Testing & Asthma Awareness, Osteoporosis Testing and CO Testing for Smokers as well as healthy eating menus running in all the College catering outlets.
The Students’ Union will run a number of sports activities in conjunction with Health Week to fundraise for Special Olympics Ireland.
