OECD and Trinity College Dublin sign first ever Partnership
Posted on: 22 September 2015
Trinity College Dublin entered a strategic partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at a special signing ceremony by OECD Secretary General, Angel Gurría and Provost & President of Trinity, Dr Patrick Prendergast last week. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will establish an internship programme for Trinity students to work in the OECD, thereby increasing their employability and global experience. It is the first MOA that OECD has signed with Ireland.
Welcoming the new partnership, OECD Secretary General, Angel Gurría said:
"The OECD is delighted to partner with Trinity College Dublin, an institution at the global knowledge frontier since the 16th century. This internship agreement will give Trinity students the opportunity to experience working in a leading international organisation that seeks better policies for better lives, while the OECD will benefit from Trinity's talented and motivated students."
The internships will target research students studying in the Department of Economics. These internships are a practical and professionally useful opportunity for students to apply their research and learning to practice. They will also benefit from a mentor to guide them during their experience. There is a big demand amongst the student body for such internships.
The OECD is a leading international organisation of 34 member countries, which recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary and has global recognition. It undertakes collaborative research to support countries across the world in developing better education systems, more effective industrial and environmental policies and stronger institutions to tackle corruption and foster good governance. Its analyses and reports are widely cited and used by governments, as well as by academia, media, civil society and other international organisations.
Provost & President Dr Patrick Prendergast said:
“Today we sign a memorandum of agreement between our two institutions, which offers a wonderful opportunity to our students. They are invited to grow their skills and knowledge, and to advance their career prospects by doing internships in the OECD. The aim of the Trinity Education is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and competencies to successfully manage complex challenges in an ever-changing environment, and to contribute effectively to their professions and to civic society, both locally and globally. Experiential learning is a key component in our commitment to students that we will prepare and position them for growth and success.”
