Minister for Education to open Irish-American education & innovation symposium

‘International collaborations in education, research and innovation’ is the topic of a major Irish-American symposium to be hosted by the presidents of Trinity College Dublin, Boston College and Georgia Institute of Technology this Thursday, 1st September in Trinity.
The joint high-level symposium will be opened by the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton and includes US and Irish academics and business leaders. The symposium forms part of the Aer Lingus Football Classic and Game Week 2016.
Over 20,000 Americans are expected in Dublin for the Game Week which culminates in the main event – Boston College V Georgia Tech on Saturday 3rd September at the Aviva Stadium.
Trinity will be the venue for the official Game Week Welcome Village and will play host to a variety of social, cultural and business-orientated activities. There will be entertainment each night, Thursday 1st September – Saturday 3rd September from 6.00 – 9.00pm. The Welcome Village in Front Square will showcase Irish food, beverages, crafts, design and attractions.
In addition to over 100 American Football squad members per team, Boston College and Georgia Tech are travelling with a 150-piece strong marching band and cheerleading troops, who will perform at the pep rallies and take part in the age-old tradition of the game day Tailgate at The Welcome Village.
The Boston College pep rally takes places at 3.00pm followed by the Georgia Tech pep rally at 4.30pm, on Friday 2nd September in Trinity’s Front Square.
In addition, on Thursday 1st September the High Schools pep rally and parade starting in Parnell Square North at 4.00pm will travel over O’Connell Bridge to Trinity featuring all high school teams, bands and cheerleaders. Trinity’s Vice President for Global Relations, Professor Juliette Hussey will deliver the welcome address on behalf of the University.
The pre-game Tailgate starts at 9.00am on Saturday 3rd September at the Welcome Village in Trinity.
