Launch of Éigse na Tríonóide, Trinity’s Irish Language Festival

The release of balloons in Trinity College Dublin’s Front Square by Dublin’s Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn marked the launch of Éigse na Tríonóide, Trinity College Dublin’s Irish Language Festival

This year’s Irish language celebration Éigse na Tríonóide festival will run from today, Monday January 27th to Friday 31st and is organised in association with the Irish Language Office.

An exciting week is planned for the Éigse in the heart of the capital city and events are open to everyone with at least four events being held each day through Irish.

Highlights of the week include:

The official launch of the Éigse on Monday January 27th at 6pm in Seomra na Gaeilge featuring music, refreshments and craic with guest speaker Professor Alan Titley.
A debate in Seomra na Gaeilge on Tuesday January 28th with special guest speakers. Traditional Irish culture will be to the fore at 4pm with a Sean-Nós workshop, and a film in Irish will be shown at 6pm.
On Wednesday January 29th morning, run around with the Cumann Gaelach from 10.00am when people will be trying to catch the ‘Fugitive Gaelach’ and on Wednesday night, the highlight of the week’s events will be GIG MÓR NA HÉigse DO PHÁDRAIG SCHALER, with members of Kila, Seo Linn and the Trinitones at the Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay.
Beautiful singing can be heard at Urnaí na Nóna (Choral Evensong in Irish) in the Trinity College Chapel at 5.15pm on Thursday January 30th.
The Éigse will close with a relaxing evening of storytelling in the Lord Edward pub at 7pm on Friday January 31st.
