Interactive Bubble Exhibition Promises Fizz, Froth and Foam

Trinity College Dublin’s Science Gallery invites visitors to enter the iridescent and magical world of bubbles in its new exhibition of fizz, froth and foam. The BUBBLE exhibition which is an exploration of the physics of foams and bubbles runs from July 31st until September 25.th
BUBBLE has been developed in collaboration with leading physicists Professor Denis Weaire and Dr Stefan Hutzler, of the Foams and Complex Systems Group at TCD’s School of Physics. Director of the Science Gallery, Michael John Gorman, commenting on the exhibition said: “BUBBLE is an exhibition where we ask our visitors, young and old, to get their hands wet in our Lather Lab, and let them explore how long can you make a bubble last? Can you make a bubble to cover yourself? How can you make a paper clip float on water?”

In addition to the interactive elements of the exhibition, BUBBLE will represent foams and bubbles through a range of installations and artworks. These include a model of the Water Cube from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where the Weaire Phelan structure inspired the architects to create the distinctive exterior, the Soap Opera photography of Tim Duram and the installation 10,000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid by Dmitry Gelfand and Evelina Domnitch returns to the Gallery after being shown at Lightwave 2009, and
As part of the exhibition a BUBBLE festival to be held in the Science Gallery from August 28th ? 30th featuring internationally acclaimed bubble performances, a barista foam smack down and foam foods events.
The BUBBLE exhibition is suitable for all ages and admission is free. The Science Gallery is open Tuesday-Friday 12.00pm – 8.00pm and Saturday and Sunday 12.00pm -6.00pm. The BUBBLE exhibition is supported by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism.
