Increase in Higher Education Access Students Entering TCD

One hundred and seventeen incoming students are taking part in the annual Trinity Access Programmes’ (TAP) Pre University Orientation Programme, showing a 23% increase in the numbers of students entering Trinity College through the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) on last year.  The orientation programme, organised in association with Accenture has been ongoing this week.

The course introduces students, with no family history of progression to third-level, to Trinity’s campus and facilities, academic structures and student support services, as well as to academic staff and fellow undergraduates. All students who are entering TCD through HEAR, which is administered by TAP on behalf of the College, are required to attend this programme.

During the orientation programme, students take part in a range of activities designed to let them experience various academic, social, physical and cultural aspects of Trinity.  Activities include study skills, essay writing sessions, campus and library tours, sporting and social activities and information sessions.

The programmes’ events are made possible due to the invaluable input of academic and administrative staff from many of the College’s departments, as well as its societies and current undergraduate students. Staff members of Accenture also play a key role in facilitating some of the sessions with students, as well as working with their parents.
