Impressive innings for Trinity Cricket

The gods were shining down on Trinity Cricket Club recently when they celebrated their 1,000th game in College Park. The club, which at 182 years is the oldest club in college, held a celebratory lunch in the Pav for over 80 alumni, who watched the home side triumph over Rush.

The first of those 1,000 games was back in 1919, when the Leinster league was formed and competitive matches began. CEO of Cricket Leinster Philip Smith was one of the guests at the lunch, along with CEO of Cricket Ireland Warren Deutrom, Head of Sport Michelle Tanner and Senator David Norris.

To mark their millennium, the Cricket Club compiled a list of all those who’ve togged out for them over the course of the 1,000 games. The end result is 785 men and women, each of whom has been designated their own unique cap with a number on.

Alum Ed Joyce is number 646, current team member, Irish international and sports scholar Lorcan Tucker is number 774. Samuel Beckett, who played for the club in 1920s, was cap number 47. This was presented to Senator David Norris at the occasion.

In addition, a posthumous presentation was made to the wife of former DUCAC Chair Trevor West. Maura Lee accepted a cap with the number 1,000 from club president Keith Synnott.
