Four Trinity College Dublin projects have been successful in the latest Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) awards under its Research Development Initiative.
TCD researchers were successful in two of the five strands proposed by IRCHSS. The successful TCD projects included awards for Principal Investigators Dr Michéal Collins, lecturer in Economics, for his project ‘Establishing Minimum Income Standards for Irish Households’, and Dr Yvonne Scott, Senior Lecturer in History of Art and Head of Department, for her project ‘Bacon’s books: Francis Bacon’s library and its role in his art’. These projects were successful under the ‘Targeted co-fund initiatives’ strand and resulted in collaborative relationships between TCD researchers and the Hugh Lane Gallery and the Vincentian Partnership for Social Justice.
Two other TCD projects received awards under the ‘Knowledge exchange’ strand. The awards were made to Principal Investigators Professor Robbie Gilligan, Head of School of Social Work and Social Policy, for his project ‘What you need to know about children and racism’, and Dr Kathleen McTiernan, lecturer in Psychology, for her project ‘Life History Knowledge Exchange: Sharing digital humanities knowledge with elderly auto biographers to facilitate their dissemination of the knowledge acquired over a lifetime’.
The awards are designed to support researchers expand their research activities in new directions through knowledge transfer initiatives, networking and collaboration, and exploratory investigations which may lead to larger and more sustainable research projects and programmes.
