Honours even at rowing Colours

It was honours even at this year’s Rowing Colours, the annual clash between Trinity and UCD men’s and women’s crews that takes place on the River Liffey every March.
The 2.2km course begins at O’Connell Bridge and culminates at the Guinness gate on Victoria Quay.
First out of the traps were the novice women in the Sally Moorhead Cup. Sadly it didn’t go Trinity’s way with UCD winning for the second year in a row.
Next up were the novice men, racing for the Dan Quinn Shield, which Trinity won comfortably.
Trinity’s senior women were emphatic winners in the third race of the day, retaining the Corcoran Cup for the second year in a row. However the Gannon Cup, the senior men’s race, was won by UCD although Trinity put up a good fight to the end.
While there was no repeat of last year’s blizzard-like conditions, a strong headwind caused some delays as the boats struggled to line up at the start line.
Speaking after the event Trinity women’s rowing (DULBC) coach Andrew Coleman commented of the seniors’ win: “The crew handled the tricky conditions very well and managed to capitalise on a good start. The result was built on a solid winter of training and the whole club is looking forward to the regatta season.”
