Help and Support for Those Affected by the Berkeley Tragedy
Posted on: 17 June 2015
Dear Trinity Student
The thoughts of the College Community are with the families and friends of the students who died or were injured in the tragic accident in Berkeley.
We are aware that many of you will know some of them and we understand how difficult and upsetting getting such news can be. Based on the information we have, one of our own students, Clodagh Cogley, is amongst the injured and is being treated in hospital. We are particularly thinking of her and her family at this difficult time and wish her a prompt recovery.
We would like to encourage all those who are affected to access supports either in College or outside. Support is available in the Counselling Service, either on a one-to-one basis or for groups of students if this is what you prefer.
Emergency drop-ins are available as follows:
Today (Wednesday 17th June), tomorrow (18th June) and Friday 19th from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Student Counselling Service is located on the 3rd Floor of 7/9 South Leinster Street, (near the National Gallery). Just call into reception.
Other support services in College are available too and their contact details are available below.
For those who are not in Dublin, a Skype check-in will be available tomorrow (Thursday 18th) between 5 and 7 p.m. Dublin time. Please e-mail student-counselling@tcd.ie for pre-booking and do obtain Skype details.
If you are currently in the San Francisco Bay area, you may wish to avail of the following supports:
The Irish Consulate in San Francisco can be reached at 415 392 4214.
An Incident Centre is available from 9.30 am local time on 17th June at Berkeley City Hall, 1900 Addison Street, Berkely. A Grief Counsellor’s support will be available. Phone lines will also be made available to allow you to contact home.
The San Francisco Pastoral Centre is also providing support and can be reached at 415 752 6006.
Please don’t struggle on your own, reach out to your friends and avail of the supports in place.
Best wishes,
Claire Laudet, Senior Tutor
Aideen Long, Dean of Graduate Studies
