Goethe-Institut Choir Concert to Benefit Organ Refurbishment in Trinity’s Public Theatre

The Goethe-Institut Choir will present a selection of Elizabethan and European choral music from the time of the foundation of Trinity College Dublin in 1592, including works by Byrd, Morley, Arbeau, Lassus, Hassler and Isaac, on Friday 5th June. Also included in the concert are some more contemporary favourites by Verdi and Gershwin, with Philip O’Reilly, Bass.
The concert will be performed in the Public Theatre (Exam Hall) and is part of a drive to raise funds for refurbishment of the organ.
The organ in the Public Theatre, an important outward-facing part of the College, is housed in an historic 1684 case and is part of our cultural heritage. It is in an advanced state of decay, structurally unsafe and virtually unplayable. The Organ Committee has been working on commissioning its refurbishment. The estimated cost of the work is €400,000, of which a substantial sum has been already committed through generous private donations and a loan from the College.
