PhD Researcher in Geology in the School of Natural Sciences at Trinity, Anthea Lacchia, has just been selected as one of the five international winners of the Naturejobs Career Expo Journalism Competition for budding science journalists.
Her winning competition entry, a 600 word answer to the question: ‘Career paths: Should you follow in the footsteps of your idol?’ will be published on the Naturejobs blog before she travels to Boston to attend the Naturejobs Career Expo 2015 on May 20. She will help to cover the event by reporting on conference sessions and workshops, and will have her articles published on the Naturejobs blog.
While in the US, Anthea will meet and work with editors from the Nature Publishing Group, which publishes journals, online databases, and services across clinical medicine and the life, physical, chemical and applied sciences. Among its most famous publications is the world-leading, weekly international journal Nature.
She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been selected as one of the winners. I see this as a wonderful opportunity to work on my writing and reporting skills, while gaining hands-on experience. What I’m looking forward to most is working with the editors on my pieces. It’s very exciting!”
Anthea was also recently awarded the title of “Science Education Journalist of the Year” at the Student Media Awards.
