Film Director Neil Jordan among recipients of Honorary Degrees at TCD

The film director, novelist and script writer, Neil Jordan, is among three recipients to receive honorary degrees at Trinity College Dublin today (December 15). The award winning film maker who has directed 13 feature films was conferred with a Doctor in Letters (Litt.D) for his significant role in film making both in Ireland and internationally.

Regarded by many as the foremost Irish figure in the international film industry, his films include The Crying Game, Interview with the Vampire, Breakfast on Pluto, Mona Lisa, Michael Collins and The Butcher Boy.

The other recipients of honorary degrees are:

Peter Ndimbirwe Mugyenyi Sc.D (Doctor in Science)
Director of the Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala, he has emerged as a leading figure in African medical studies over the last two decades, and has led research into various infectious diseases and their prevention. He has been the driving force behind the innovative campaign to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS in Uganda, and has helped to disseminate the Ugandan experience elsewhere in Africa. With Irish links for more than twenty years, he has collaborated closely with physicians from St. James’s Hospital and the Trinity Medical School.

Jean O’Hara M.A. (Master in Arts)
An administrator in the TCD Alumni/Proctors’ and Seanad Electoral Office over many years, Jean O’Hara has played a unique role in protecting and upholding the formal traditions and practices of the university.
