Trinity Business School has announced that David McWilliams, economist, columnist and best-selling author will be joining the faculty and delivering a course on Global economics on the Trinity Executive MBA.
Professor McWilliams is one of Ireland’s leading economic commentators and came to prominence during the mid 00’s when he warned of a credit bubble during the Irish boom. He has written four bestsellers, presented award-winning documentaries and in 2008 was named a Global Leader by the World Economic Forum at Davos. McWilliams was recently ranked as the most influential economist in the UK and Ireland by CityAM, London.
As a Trinity alumnus David has first-hand experience of the long standing tradition of academic excellence delivered by Trinity Business School in the areas of Business and Management. “To be given the opportunity to teach on the number one ranked MBA in Ireland is a great honour and something I am eagerly awaiting. What attracted me to the Trinity MBA was the unique structure of the course. The Trinity MBA is the only MBA in Ireland using a project based learning methodology, this gives the participants the opportunity to apply their business and strategy skills in a series of live company projects while they progress through the programme. As someone who strongly believes that the real world must be at the heart of education, I think this is the right approach. Going back to Trinity where I first learned and became fascinated by economics is a bit like coming home really.”
Michael Flynn – Trinity MBA Director states: “David’s extensive experience as an economist and writer as well as his past experience as a strategist with leading investment houses both in London and New York make him a strong fit for our Executive MBA programme. The ‘real world’ applied nature of our MBA, which is achieved by engaging with experts such as David allows the Trinity MBA programme to stand out and ensures we remain the number one ranked MBA programme in the Ireland and a top 10 MBA programme in Europe with employer based surveys such as QS and Eduniversal.”
Professor Andrew Burke – Dean of Trinity Business School highlighted the excellent fit between McWilliams’ expertise and the approach to management education at Trinity. “It is great to have David McWilliams as part of Trinity Business School’s team. He joins as an adjunct faculty member because, like so many others, he wants to keep his remaining impressive and substantial career portfolio active while also working with us. Our philosophy is that business education needs to deliver thought provoking cutting-edge industry and research expertise which is relevant for real business. Professor McWilliams brings these dimensions to the classroom. His charismatic, argumentative and insightful method will create a stimulating learning outcome which challenges the boundaries of conventional thought and gets students thinking for themselves. His course will generate immense value added for the students and the businesses in which they are involved.”
