Duais Gradam Gnó na Gaeilge
Posted on: 19 May 2016
Tá Coláiste na Tríonóide ar ghearrliosta sa bhabhta ceannais don duais iomráiteach “Gradam Gnó na Gaeilge”, mar chuid de ghradaim na hInstitiúide Margaíochta i mbliana. Tá an eachtra seo mar thoradh ar thrí thograí a bhí againn i 2015, a léirigh fairsinge na gcomhpháirtíochtaí cultúrtha a bhíonn ar bun ag Oifig na Gaeilge agus an chaoi a chuireann siad le héagsúlacht. Is iad na tograí seo:
- “Cad is Brí le “Saor agus Gaelach” i 2016?: Seimineár poiblí dátheangach ar Éirí Amach na Cásca 1916, a reáchtáladh i gcomhar le Conradh na Gaeilge i mí na Samhna 2015. Bhí cainteoirí ó Thuaisceart Éireann, Albain agus ón bpobal Protastúnach ó dheas rannpháirteach sa seimineár seo. Bhi slua maith i láthair agus clúdach maith sna meáin ina dhiaidh. Thaispeáin an seimineár seo roinnt dearcaí úr ar an eachtra fíor-thábhachtach seo i stair na hÉireann. Chuir sé tús freisin le clár leathan agus an-rathúil imeachtaí ón Oifig chun comóradh a dhéanamh ar 1916 mar chuid de chlár comórtha Choláiste na Tríonóide.
- Foilsiú Trinity Tongues i Márta 2015, i gcomhar leis an Cumann Gaelach. Seo iris ina scríobh baill foirne agus mic léinn ina dteangacha féin faoina dtaithí teanga sa Choláiste, agus é aistrithe go Gaeilge agus go Béarla. Mheall an iris spéis leathan agus thug sé deis do mhic léinn idirnáisiúnta agus Éireannacha a gcuid focal féin a fheiceáil i gcló taobh ar taobh le haistriúcháin Ghaeilge agus Bhéarla. Chuir sé seo leis an mothúchán gur cuid luachmhar de shochaí na hÉireann agus de shaol an Choláiste iad na daoine agus na cultúir a bhí rannpháirteach.
- Seoladh leabhar "As Trunc Fernando Pessoa", i mí Dheireadh Fómhair 2015 mar chuid den fhéile chultúrtha IMRAM. Sa leabhar seo, foilsíodh leaganacha Gaeilge ó údar Deirdre Brennan de roinnt de shaothar fhile mór na Portaingéile Fernando Pessoa. Sheol Ambasadóir na Portaingéile an leabhar agus léiríodh na comóntachtaí agus codarsnachtaí cultúrtha idir Éire agus an Phortaingéil i dtéarmaí an ról atá ag an fhile sa náisiún. Mar aon leis sin, léiríodh an bealach ina fheidhmíonn an aistriúcháin chun tuilleadh brí a bhaint ó bhuntéacs. Chruthaigh sé seo tuiscint níos fearr ar shaothar cultúrtha agus chuir sé le comhthuiscint agus le cairdeas.
Trinity has been shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious Gradam Gnó na Gaeilge award in the All Ireland Marketing Awards organised by the Marketing Institute. This achievement is a result of three key events which took place in 2015 showing the range, scope and depth of Trinity's Irish Language Office’s cultural collaborations and how they contribute to diversity. The events are:
- “What does “Gaelic and Free mean in 2016?”: the bilingual public seminar on the 1916 Easter Rising, organised jointly with Conradh na Gaeilge in November 2015, including North-South, Scottish and Southern Protestant representatives, attracted a strong audience and subsequent media follow-up, and showcased a number of fresh perspectives on this critical moment in Ireland’s history. It also initiated a wide-ranging and highly successful programme of events to mark the centenary organised by the office as part of Trinity’s commemorative programme.
- The Trinity Tongues publication in March 2015, with An Cumann Gaelach, in which staff and students wrote in their own languages about their experiences of language, this being translated into Irish and English, attracted wide interest and provided an opportunity for international and Irish students to see their own words alongside translations into Irish and English. This contributed to their feeling valued and included in College life and in Ireland.
- The book launch “As Trunc Fernando Pessoa”, in October 2015 as part of the IMRAM cultural festival, featured Irish translations by Deirdre Brennan of some of the works of Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. The launch by the Ambassador of Portugal showcased the cultural commonalities and contrasts between Ireland and Portugal in terms of the role of the poet in the national consciousness and the subtleties of translations which draw out further meaning from an original text. This created enhanced appreciation of a cultural work and contributed to mutual understanding and friendship.
