Trinity College Dublin is host to several events during Culture Night this Friday 23rd September. Join in the fun during this annual public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts, all over Ireland.
Here are the range of activities taking place across Trinity. Click on the links to find out more detail on each event.
The 'Story of the Earth' exhibition highlights the geological evolution of the planet, with displays of rocks, minerals and fossils. Discover some of the museum's hidden treasures, including ammonites, trilobites, volcanic rocks and beautiful minerals, retrieved from storage for the occasion. Come see the Attenborosaurus, named after Sir David Attenborough!
Trinity College takes the opportunity of Culture Night to reflect on its relationship with the late, great, comic fantasy author, Terry Pratchett. This year, the college looks specifically at Pratchett's advocacy for understanding of Alzheimer's Disease. The event brings together scientists working at the cutting edge of research on brain diseases like Alzheimer's, asking how far we have come and how far we have yet to go.
Turas Treoraithe ar Champas Choláiste na Tríonóide
Join a guided tour of Trinity College Dublin's historic campus as Gaeilge. Gain insight into the oldest university in Ireland, its heritage and the life of today's students. Please note that the tour will be in Irish.
The Douglas Hyde presents a public Symposium titled Black Irish Contemporary Cultural Production and Social Processes as part of The Family Lines Project by artist Dr Alice Rekab, which examines legacies of migration within Black and mixedrace culture in Ireland. The Symposium aims to raise awareness on equality issues and celebrate diversity, focusing on Black Irish Cultural production as a site of memory, heritage, homage and legacy.
The Book of Kells and Old Library (Sold Out)
A behind the scenes evening with the employees of Trinity Library. Learn about the Old Library Redevelopment project, a landmark conservation project that involves the decant of 200,000 books that line the shelves in the Long Room. Get a close-up view of the Book of Kells and soak up the atmosphere in the iconic Long Room library chamber.
Trinity Orchestra (Sold Out)
This intimate concert from Ireland's only fully student-run orchestra features major pieces from the chamber music repertoire, including works by Mendelssohn and Schumann. Bringing together students and staff from every discipline, Trinity Orchestra has established itself as a cherished institution. Located in the main gate of Trinity, you will be sure to hear the symphony as you stroll past the historic site!
