Culture Night 2018

Posted on: 17 September 2018

Trinity is host to several events during Culture Night 2018, Friday 21st September.  Join in the fun during this annual public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts, all over Ireland.

New to Culture Night, the Geological Museum of Trinity has an exhibition “The Story of the Earth” that outlines the geological evolution of our planet through displays of minerals, rocks, and fossils. This display is open for the first time for Culture Night in their new location, and highlights the 150 million year old marine reptile Attenborosaurus and various dinosaur bones from Africa, as well as beautiful geological specimens from Ireland and further afield.

Back on the schedule this year are the guided tours of the Trinity campus in Irish. Each tour will last 30 minutes and start at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and 8pm from the Front Arch.  Music & refreshments in the university’s Seomra na Gaeilge after each tour.

Trinity Long Room Hub celebrates the special relationship with fantasy author, Terry Pratchett, with an event drawing together strands of research and bringing together collaborators from Trinity College Library, Children’s Literature, East Asian Studies and Literary Translation.

Join the GAA Fun & Run in College Park. This is a perfect opportunity to get introduced to the different GAA-based activities with experienced players and coaches on hand to introduce you to the skills required for the different games. This drop-in event is suitable for all ages and abilities.

The Book of Kellsone of Ireland’s greatest cultural treasures and the world’s most famous medieval manuscript will be open late for Culture Night. Wander around the 18th century Long Room – filled with 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books and view the 1916 Proclamation and the Brian Boru harp.

Also open late for the event will be the Museum Building, which has been described as the finest Victorian building in Dublin. The polychromatic hallway in this iconic building contains a range of Irish decorative stone and beautiful naturalistic carvings. This event will illuminate the links between geology and architecture.

Fancy spending the night on Mars, under the sea or in deep space? Take an adventure to the extremes at the Science Gallery’s free exhibition LIFE AT THE EDGES. Come along to sample some out-of-this-world snacks from the café and examine life in extraordinary environments.
