Career Pathways Wins Gradireland Graduate Recruitment Award

Career Pathways, a joint collaboration between Trinity College Dublin’s Disability Service and Careers Advisory Service, has been awarded the Association of Higher Education Careers Services Employability Award in the Large Services category, at the Annual Gradireland Graduate Recruitment Awards.  The award was presented by Minister of State at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Ged Nash TD and the Chair of the Association of Higher Education Careers Services, Brendan Baker.

Career Pathways is a unique and innovative transition to employment project whose purpose is to enable students with disabilities to reflect upon and gather their work experiences throughout college; to explore their career options; to enhance their awareness of their needs, and to support them in managing their disability within the workplace.

The Genio Trust funded project has supported over 120 students with disabilities, through the use of individual meetings, group workshops, online materials and connection to employers. The project has also involved workshops for staff from Careers and Disability Services within University College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin City University and Marino Institute of Education, who are also participating in the project.

Career Pathways utilises Trinity’s first e-portfolio system called the Transition Planning Tool, an online space in which students can log their work-related skills and experiences.  The objective is for students to develop their employability through their academic and non-academic engagements in college, and to consolidate their personal development as well as their professional learning.

Career Pathways is provided by Kieran Lewis and Claire Gleeson, Senior Occupational Therapists in the Disability Service and Eileen Daly, Careers Adviser for Students with Disabilities from the Careers Advisory Service. Oversight of the project is provided by Declan Treanor, Director of the Disability Service, Dr Clodagh Nolan, Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Occupational Therapy and Clinical Director of Unilink and Sean Gannon, Director of the Careers Advisory Service.
