BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition winners secure Trinity scholarships

Four BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2017 Award winners — Emily Tierney O Hanlon, Oran Donovan, Keshav Sapkota and Antanas Murelis, — recently received scholarships from Trinity to the value of €1,000 in recognition of their achievements.

Emily attended Loreto Secondary School – Balbriggan, Oran attended Scoil Chaitríona, and Keshav and Antanas both attended Synge Street CBS.

Senior Lecturer and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Trinity, Professor Gillian Martin, said: “We are delighted that Keshav, Antanas, Oran and Emily chose to pursue their studies here and that we can mark their achievements in this way. Their winning projects, which spanned a number of disciplines, demonstrated the kind of passion for research that we hope to nurture further in Trinity.”

Emily was successful for a group project in the Biological & Ecological Science strand, in which she and her team identified differences in a family of genes that may offer new options for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Oran won his prize for a group project within the Technology strand, in which he and his team investigated human-robot social interaction.  

Keshav was successful for a group project within the Chemical, Physical and Mathematical strand, while Antanas won the individual prize within this same strand.

Keshav’s team investigated the application of numerical algorithms for constrained motion in classical mechanics, while Antanas used a statistical procedure known as Monte Carlo simulation to price Parisian Options.

Emily is now studying Law at Trinity, Oran is studying Nanoscience, Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials, Keshav is studying Engineering and Antanas is studying Science.
