Academic staff induction programme showcases Trinity

New academic staff were warmly welcomed to Trinity College Dublin by the Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast today at the beginning of a three-day induction programme.
Representing many disciplines, the 27 academic staff and two senior administrative colleagues – the new Director of Student Services and the Director of Campus Infrastructure – were told by the Provost that he is “delighted and honoured you are joining our team”.
The Provost gave an overview of the Strategic Plan and how the Board will soon be working on developing the next Strategic Plan, which will run 2019-2024; how Trinity is a member of LERU, the exclusive League of European Research Universities; and how successful the university is in securing research funding – Trinity has won half of all Irish ERC grants since the inception of the programme even though we only have 16% of academic faculty nationally.
He continued to discuss investment and Trinity’s funding, noting how state funding to universities is falling and the importance of non-exchequer, private funding; and he discussed the Trinity Education Project (TEP), the university-wide project to renew and refresh the undergraduate curriculum, building on current excellence in teaching and learning at Trinity.
Explaining the importance of the induction programme, the Director of HR, Antoinette Quinn said: “The programme is designed to assist the successful integration of appointees, to help build networks, to raise organisational and cultural awareness and the fast tracking of ‘who what where’”.
Over the course of the next three days, the attendees will hear from 26 speakers representing a cross section of the university encompassing areas such as Global Relations, Trinity Research and Innovation, Equality & Diversity, Media and Social Media, Library Services and many more.
Tailor-made by the Learning and Development team in HR, this is the third annual academic staff induction programme.
