Module Description

This module begins by exploring the fundamental concepts underpinning supply chain management in contemporary manufacturing and services operations. The course focuses on how sustainable practices can be incorporated in modern logistics.

Learning Outcomes

(NOTE: 5 Learning Outcomes are recommended – with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 7.) 

  1. Draw on the concepts and theories covered in the module as lenses for better understanding how modern global supply chains operate and may become more sustainable in their operation;
  2. Collaborate with fellow students in researching these applications of sustainable supply chain concepts;
  3. Articulate how these concepts apply in a variety of business settings to address core climate challenges;
  4. Analyse the impacts on global supply chain design and operations of currently topical issues such as sustainability, globalisation, and technological advances; 
  5. Develop practical understanding of supply chains through qualitative and quantitative approaches providing deeper insights into global supply chain design and sustainable management.

General Supplemental Readings: Introduction to Operations and Supply Chain Management, 5th Edition, Bozarth and Handfield, Pearson 2019 

Assessment

 Semester 1 

  1. Group Project: Case Study Analysis and Presentation (20%)
  2. Individual: Critical Discussion essay using lived example (25%)

 Semester 2 

  1. Group Project: Sustainability Challenge Analysis and Presentation (20%)
  2. Individual: Critical Discussion essay on a choice of core course themes (35%)

(Please note that in an update from previous years there is no final exam)

Reassessment

A supplemental final assignment may be given for students who fail the module or who cannot submit the final individual essay (having gone through proper procedure with your tutor). In these cases the supplemental essay will be 100% of the grade.
