Biography
Mervyn Jacob, BBS Hons (1982) is a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong. He started his career with Price Waterhouse in Dublin where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has over 35 years of professional audit and advisory experience in Ireland, Australia and Hong Kong. His area of expertise is financial services and his experience covers a wide range of international financial services organisations including retail, commercial and investment banks, securities dealers and asset managers. In almost 30 years in Hong Kong he has been responsible for some of the firm’s largest financial services clients operating across the Asia region. He has led buyer and vendor due diligence reviews of financial institutions as well as asset quality, risk management and regulatory compliance reviews of banks. He spent considerable time in mainland China working with Chinese banks as they reformed and came to the stock market. During his career, he has sat on various Hong Kong regulatory committees. From 2004 to 2015, he was the leader of the PwC Hong Kong and China Financial Services Assurance Practice.
Mervyn was a founding member and President of the Irish Business Forum of Hong Kong which subsequently became the Irish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. A native of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, he was educated in St Mary's School, Enniscorthy, The Kings Hospital School, Dublin and Trinity College Dublin. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is married with two children.
