We spoke to Petro Visagé, a Global Business student at Trinity Business School and newly elected Scholar, on how she prepared for the examinations and what the #TrinityMonday announcement means to her. Petro has an unyielding passion for sustainability and is involved with several environmental and vegan societies on campus. She also writes for the Trinity Business Review, Ireland’s leading student business publication. 

Getting elected as a Scholar has granted me the freedom to fully immerse myself in academic and personal growth, unburdened by financial worries. Additionally, this accolade has opened doors to a community of talented and ambitious scholars from various cohorts whose collective ambition and ingenuity continue to ignite my own drive for excellence.

When it came to preparing for the scholarship examinations, my success can be attributed to two vital elements: discipline and resourcefulness. I crafted a comprehensive study plan during the semester and stuck to it. But studying isn't just about burying your nose in textbooks! Oh no, I infused my learning experience with a healthy dose of engagement and creativity. I avidly listened  to podcasts like the HBR IdeaCast and the McKinsey Podcast to expand my knowledge while staying in tune with the ever-evolving world of business.

When the going got tough, I sought guidance from experts and peers. For example, I recognized the challenges I faced with the accounting paper, so I reached out to an expert in law and accounting. Engaging in thought-provoking conversations and discussing potential topics with them breathed life into complex topics, making it not only understandable but downright fascinating! This personalized approach transformed the seemingly daunting material into a captivating learning experience.

For those embarking on their own exam preparations, I leave the following advice. Before you plunge headfirst into the content, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the format of past papers. You might be surprised by how much you already know! Identify your weaknesses and tackle them first. I also highly recommend you find the link between your studies and your bigger goals and passions.  For me, this meant exploring how my newfound knowledge could address pressing social and environmental challenges. That connection became my wellspring of motivation, keeping me disciplined and focused throughout the journey.

Lastly, I cannot stress the significance of engaging with your community enough. I owe a great deal of my success to the mentors and peers who supported me during my preparations. They say it takes a village, and it truly does. Create study groups, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and don't hesitate to seek guidance from mentors and previous scholars. Embrace the collective wisdom and diverse perspectives that surround you, for they will strengthen your essays and infuse your journey with a sense of shared purpose and motivation.

The most rewarding aspect of my Trinity Business School experience so far has been this remarkable sense of community —  it is a  tightly knit network of individuals who continuously inspire and support one another. What further sets this community apart is its unwavering commitment to sustainability. Trinity Business School not only shares my values with its mission of “Transforming Business for Good”, but it also empowers me to pursue my ambitions in sustainability. I feel that I am in the perfect environment to thrive.
