Suas 8×8 Festival Photographic Exhibition on Display in Trinity
Posted on: 07 October 2014
The Suas 8×8 Photographic Exhibition, part of a development focused arts festival presented by Suas Educational Development, Trinity Suas, the Trinity International Development Initiative (TIDI) and Trinity Students’ Union, is taking place in Trinity College from Monday 6 October to Sunday 12 October 2014.
The 8×8 exhibition touches the surface of what is currently happening worldwide. On display outside the Berkeley Library, the exhibition begins with a focus on consumerism, its impact on people and the environment and the rising competition for natural resources.
The images also illustrate that those living in extreme poverty are most vulnerable to the consequences of climate change. It continues with a glimpse into innovative solutions to development challenges before moving onto education and its role in sustainable and equitable development. Finally it puts a lens to the topics of human rights and people’s participation in democracy.
Now in its second year, 8×8 is a new development-focused arts festival that aims to engage third level students in a conversation about global development issues and promote further engagement. Funded by Irish Aid and the European Union, this year's festival revolves around a touring outdoor photo exhibit with associated speaker events, discussions and film screenings. The week-long festival takes place on five university campuses across Ireland beginning in Trinity College.
