Biography

Dr Neda Nikou is a Research Fellow in Energy and the Environment in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. Her research focuses on Water and Environmental Engineering, with expertise in Hydraulics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Water and Wastewater Treatment and Energy Recovery, Hydrology, Digital Twins, as well as Project Management and Sustainability.

Dr Nikou’s academic and professional experience spans research, advisory, and engineering roles across academia and government. She has held appointments at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Zistab Consulting Engineers, and the National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company. She has contributed to a wide range of infrastructure and environmental initiatives, including wastewater treatment and energy recovery systems, environmental flow modelling, hydrological studies for dam design, flood risk management and resilience planning, and large-scale drinking water allocation projects.

She has secured competitive research funding from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Iran’s Ministry of Science, and the Plan and Budget Organisation, and has contributed to Horizon Europe proposals. Dr Nikou has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications (h-index: 7; i10-index: 5) and actively serves as a reviewer for several international journals. In recognition of her reviewing contributions, she was nominated to the Journal of Water’s Exceptional Reviewers List.
